Persuasion:
To Persuade, in my perspective is to try to convince others to think the way you want them to about a certain topic. During our English Option class, we played a game to help us understand more about advertisements, and how there are many different strategies for companies to make us want their product. These strategies include: humor, macho, friends, family, fun, nature, sexy, cartoon, celebrity and wealth. To play the game we all had partners, and an envelope that had all the different techniques in it. We would take a word out one at a time, then find an advertisement on the internet using our iPads. The advertisement we choose is the one that we think fits well with the strategy we picked out of the envelope. The team who guesses each other's advertisements first within three tries wins the game! The game we played definitely helped me identify the concepts each technique has. These ten words below are all different methods advertisements have, that interest us to get us to think more about their product.
Techniques:
Humor- Funny concepts that get viewers to get the emotion of laughter.
Macho- Concepts that show anything that is strong, tough, powerful, fit (usually male).
Friends- Groups of people laughing and enjoying each other's company.
Family- Includes your mom, dad, sister, brother, etc. Usually bonding and having good times together.
Fun- Anything about having a good time, usually includes people laughing or smiling.
Nature- Concepts that make the outdoors look beautiful, includes: trees, green grass, flowers, etc.
Sexy- Anything that either shows revealing clothing,a fit body, flirting, etc.
Cartoon- Images and drawings that sometimes are unrealistic. Most often humor is included along with the cartoon.
Celebrity- Famous people who are usually idolized by many people. Could be: actors, athletes, musicians, etc.
Wealth- Expensive and fancy things, such as: clothes, houses, cars, jewelry, etc.

Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba!
My Words: Black
Borrowed Words: Red
The topic I chose that helps others is The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
The topic I chose that helps others is The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
Children's Hospital of Manitoba
According to The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba "The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba is an organization that ensures that kids who get treated at the Winnipeg Children's Hospital receives the best medicine as possible". To make this achievable," they try to raise money so the kids can get the treatment they need. So far over 130,000 children get treated at the Children's Hospital each year".
Ways They Help:
Brittney Fox
According to The Children's Hospital of Manitoba, "Brittney Fox is considered one of their "Champion Child". This is because Brittney Fox didn't experience a normal childhood like other children. "She was diagnosed with Cystic Hygroma at a very early age of 11 months. It's because of her sickness that made Brittney paralyzed on her left side, and was unable to speak". However, because of the doctors and nurses at The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, "Brittney was still able to have fun just like other kids "I remember people coming to my room to play games with me, and playing Bingo through the TV," says Brittney. "I remember it was fun." Today, Brittney thankfully has not visited the hospital for several years", thanks to the hard work, medication, and of course the miraculous touch of our God.The Manitoba Institute of Child Health (MICH)
According to Winnipeg Free Press "The Manitoba Institute of Child Health (MICH) is an organization that tries to learn more about diseases, and how to help cure kids". They are also working to try to "raise $20 million with the help of the Be My Hero Capital Campaign". Please watch this video for more information on The Manitoba Institute of Child Health.
Winnipeggers "Walk For A Miracle"
According to CTV Winnipeg "On June, 11 2011, two hundred people walked. They began at the St. Vital Park early in the morning, in able to raise money to research more about diseases and to also purchase more medicine, equipment for the Children's Hospital".
Thief Steals Children's Hospital Donation Box From Store
According to CTV Winnipeg "On March 25, 2011, the surveillance tape caught a man take the Children's Hospital donation box at a Winnipeg store. He took the donation box while the clerk was helping a customer. There was at least $2,000 in the donation box, which is a huge amount that could of been given to the hospital, said Lesia Sianchuk who is the executive director of the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba".
I know this story doesn't really represent how The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba helps others. However, I think it does show how some people out there are self-centered, and they do not even realize how difficult it may be for the sick kids and how they encountered their sickness at a very young age; and I think they should because, you have to admit that whether you have kids or not, kids are a great way to make us smile. Therefore, I find it really depressing of how this man, did not even care to think about the kids who are suffering at such a young age.
In conclusion, I am very glad to have a Children's Hospital Foundation in Manitoba; knowing this organization is doing its best to help cure kids all over Manitoba. I hope more people continue to donate and support, for its definitely for a good cause.
