Photo Analysis!

To begin with this blog, the first thing I would like to talk about are the three variables of photography, which contain:

Camera Angle:
Camera Angle includes camera at eye level, above subject, below subject, subject not squared, and severely slanted subject. All of these make a difference to what the viewer feels towards a picture, because if the the picture were to be at eye level, it would make you feel equal towards the subject. If the picture is camera above subject, it would make the subject look inferior, because the subject is being looked down on. In the other hand if the picture is camera below subject, it would make the subject look superior, because the subject is being looked upon, and if the picture is subject not squared or severely slanted, it would make the subject look non-stable.

Lighting:
Lighting includes Sufficient light, insufficient light, lit from below, lit from above, and lit from the side. In my opinion I think lighting is the most important variable in photography, because although the other variables are also very important, lighting makes a bigger impact on how a picture would turn out. For example, if the picture is lit from below, lit from above, or lit from the side, it would make the subject look scary, because were not use to the lighting. If the lighting of the picture is sufficient, there is enough light in the picture. If the lighting in the picture is insufficient lighting, the lighting of the picture isn't enough. Another reason why I think lighting is the most important variable is if the picture is really dark, the camera angle, and the proximity wouldn't even matter because you wouldn't be able to see anything in the picture.

Proximity:
Proximity includes long ( establishing light), Medium long, medium (Torso and face), close-up (face only), extreme close-up. Proximity also makes a big difference when it comes to photography, because if the picture is long or medium long, it would show more of the background or the body of the subject. If the picture is medium, it just shows the face and the torso. If the picture is close-up or extreme close-up, it focuses more on the face of the subject.

All of these variables can make a big impact on how a picture turns out. If you would like to know more about the three variables of photography, please visit our class wiki.

1951 ... Ridgeway to Korea!

Photo Evaluation:
This picture definitely makes me feel scared and intimidated by Matt Ridgeway, which is the name of the man in this picture. The lighting of this photo is light from above, you can tell by the hard shadows underneath his eyebrows, ear, nose, hat, and under his chin. The camera angle in this picture is at eye level, because the camera is aligned with the subject . The proximity in this photograph is medium because all you can see is Matt Ridgeway's face and torso. The way his eyes are not shown, pretty much cover "the windows to his soul", which to me shows, that he doesn't want to show any of his feelings and emotions. His clothing makes him look very professional and definitely important, and the fact that he's wearing a grenade makes him look like he doesn't fool around when it comes to his job. His posture makes him look very stiff, focused and serious. The background of this picture goes with the fact that he is a soldier, that the things he has experienced are very dark and gloomy. In conclusion, I think this picture is very effective because it made me feel many feelings towards it.

Advertisement Evaluation

Selena Gomez's Borden Milk Commercial:

Introduction:
The commercial I will be evaluating for this blog is Selena Gomez's Borden Milk Commercial. The product of this commercial is milk, named after a brand called Borden. This video shows Selena Gomez explaining how  Borden's milk is the freshest and creamiest brand of milk out there.
Techniques of Persuasion:
All the techniques used to persuade viewers in this advertisement are: fun, cartoon, nature and celebrity. The way fun was shown in this advertisement is through the facial expression of Selena Gomez, and also through the way Selena Gomez smiled throughout the entire video. In the other hand, the way nature and cartoon were represented in this video, is through the setting, and also through the way Selena Gomez explained how
Borden's milk is naturally made. In my opinion the best strategy they used in this advertisement, is to use a celebrity, more specifically Selena Gomez to be a spokes model for Borden's milk product. I thought this was the best strategy because Selena Gomez is well idolized by kids and teens, so using her as a spokes model, would persuade kids to drink Borden's milk, knowing that someone like Selena Gomez finds it really good.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, I think this advertisement is convincing, because I myself are a fan of Selena Gomez; which is why I think, many other people who idolize her would definitely want to try this product. Another reason why I think this advertisement is effective is because, if I see Selena Gomez on T.V., I would probably think of this commercial, and Borden's milk.

Techniques of Persuasion

Persuasion:
To Persuade, in my perspective is to try to convince others to think the way you want them to about a certain topic. During our English Option class, we played a game to help us understand more about advertisements, and how there are many different strategies for companies to make us want their product. These strategies include: humor, macho, friends, family, fun, nature, sexy, cartoon, celebrity and wealth. To play the game we all had partners, and an envelope that had all the different techniques in it. We would take a word out one at a time, then find an advertisement on the internet using our iPads. The advertisement we choose is the one that we think fits well with the strategy we picked out of the envelope. The team who guesses each other's advertisements first within three tries wins the game! The game we played definitely helped me identify the concepts each technique has. These ten words below are all different methods advertisements have, that interest us to get us to think more about their product.

Techniques:
Humor- Funny concepts that get viewers to get the emotion of laughter.
Macho- Concepts that show anything that is strong, tough, powerful, fit (usually male).
Friends- Groups of people laughing and enjoying each other's company.
Family- Includes your mom, dad, sister, brother, etc. Usually bonding and having good times together.
Fun- Anything about having a good time, usually includes people laughing or smiling.
Nature- Concepts that make the outdoors look beautiful, includes: trees, green grass, flowers, etc.
Sexy- Anything that either shows revealing clothing,a fit body, flirting, etc.
Cartoon- Images and drawings that sometimes are unrealistic. Most often humor is included along with the cartoon.
Celebrity- Famous people who are usually idolized by many people. Could be: actors, athletes, musicians, etc.
Wealth- Expensive and fancy things, such as: clothes, houses, cars, jewelry, etc.

Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba!

My Words: Black
Borrowed Words: Red

The topic I chose that helps others is The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.

Children's Hospital of Manitoba
According to The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba "The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba is an organization that ensures that kids who get treated at the Winnipeg Children's Hospital receives the best medicine as possible". To make this achievable," they try to raise money so the kids can get the treatment they need. So far over 130,000 children get treated at the Children's Hospital each year".

Ways They Help:

Brittney Fox
According to The Children's Hospital of Manitoba, "Brittney Fox is considered one of their "Champion Child". This is because Brittney Fox didn't experience a normal childhood like other children. "She was diagnosed with Cystic Hygroma at a very early age of 11 months. It's because of her sickness that made Brittney paralyzed on her left side, and was unable to speak". However, because of the doctors and nurses at The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, "Brittney was still able to have fun just like other kids  "I remember people coming to my room to play games with me, and playing Bingo through the TV," says Brittney. "I remember it was fun." Today, Brittney thankfully has not visited the hospital for several years", thanks to the hard work, medication, and of course the miraculous touch of our God.

The Manitoba Institute of Child Health (MICH)
According to Winnipeg Free Press "The Manitoba Institute of Child Health (MICH) is an organization that tries to learn more about diseases, and how to help cure kids". They are also working to try to "raise $20 million with the help of the Be My Hero Capital Campaign". Please watch this video for more information on The Manitoba Institute of Child Health.

Winnipeggers "Walk For A Miracle"
According to CTV Winnipeg "On June, 11 2011, two hundred people walked. They began at the St. Vital Park early in the morning, in able to raise  money to research more about diseases and  to also purchase more medicine, equipment for the Children's Hospital".

Thief Steals Children's Hospital Donation Box From Store
According to CTV Winnipeg "On March 25, 2011, the surveillance tape caught a man take the Children's Hospital donation box at a Winnipeg store. He took the donation box while the clerk was helping a customer. There was at least $2,000 in the donation box, which is a huge amount that could of been given to the hospital, said Lesia Sianchuk who is the executive director of the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba".

I know this story doesn't really represent how The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba helps others. However, I think it does show how some people out there are self-centered, and they do not even realize how difficult it may be for the sick kids and how they encountered their sickness at a very young age; and I think they should because, you have to admit that whether you have kids or not, kids are a great way to make us smile. Therefore, I find it really depressing of how this man, did not even care to think about the kids who are suffering at such a young age.

In conclusion, I am very glad to have a Children's Hospital Foundation in Manitoba; knowing this organization is doing its best to help cure kids all over Manitoba. I hope more people continue to donate and support, for its definitely for a good cause.

Baby And Mother Saved From Turkey Earthquake!

As you may or may not have heard of, there has been a disasterous earth quake that recently happened in Turkey. So far, 366 people have died because of this horrible happening. However, there has been great news that rescuers have found a two week old baby girl named Azra along with her mother Semiha Karaduman under broken pieces of buildings and houses. Both the baby and the mother are safe and were brought to the hospital.

This is the type of news that gives inspiration to everyone. This story really shows how anything can happen as long as you give your faith in God. Although sometimes life gives us reasons to fall, it's the inspiring stories like this that really give us hope with all the obstacles were all facing.

I am so relieved to hear that both the baby and the mother are safe and sound, yet I am also devistated about the people who unfortunately have passed away and I give my regards to their families. I hope everyone will try to help out Turkey as much as they can. I hope and pray for the people in Turkey and also for the world to have safer weather.

Thoughts About Blogs!

For this blog I will be talking about how blogs are used to either inform, to persuade or to convince, or also to entertain readers.

To persuade means to convince others, and to get them to think the way you are thinking.
http://www.eurogamer.net/  is an example about using blogs to persuade people, most importantly the ones who love playing video games. That's because this sight is mainly about video games and the new games coming out soon would definitely make the reader want the games he/she is interested in.
http://lifehacker.com/ is a great example of how blogs are used to persuade others, because this website tells you how easier it would be to download apps.It shows how apps can help you with problems that you may have by telling you how to fix them; such as how to fix a broken zipper.

To entertain is to write things that the reader would respond to with emotions, and that the reader would enjoy.
http://kimjongillookingatthings.tumblr.com/ is a great example of using a blog to entertain, because it's about a guy named Kim Jong-il looking at a lot of random and weird things. Although this blog, is sort of nonsense and weird, it is also very entertaining to read about.
http://popeater.com/ is another great example of how blogs are used to entertain people. This website talks about all the recent happenings that has happened in celebrities lives. It's the interesting stories about celebrities that makes this website entertaining to those who actually care about what's happening in their lives.

To inform is to write information that the reader would be interested in.
http://www.bloglockers.com/ shows how a sight can be used to inform others, especially those who are a fan of NFL, MLB, and NBA, because  this website talks about what happened during the recent games, and what the scores were. It's a really great website to look at whenever you wanna know what games are coming up.
http://www.slashfilm.com/ is an example of how blogs are used to inform readers, because a lot of  people are interested about movies, and this is exactly what this website talks about. This website gives reviews on movies, and also recommends movies to those who love watching them.

So that's basically all the websites I wanted to talk about. If you want to know more about these websites, just go on the links I put above. I hope you enjoyed reading my blog.
